≡ Ministry Description and Philosophy

Ministry Description

The CALL is a non-commercial, listener-supported, FM radio station broadcasting Christian music and programming in a format that appeals to the target audience of listeners, ages 13 through 25.

Recognizing music’s power in worship, inspiration, exhortation and entertainment, The CALL seeks to use music as a tool to reach out to its target audience. The CALL’s primary mission is to make a positive impact on the community by introducing people to Christ and encouraging the growth of that relationship. This will, in turn, provide the basis and the means for young adults to stand against today’s pitfalls, including drug abuse, premarital sex, alcoholism, racism, and suicide.

Ministry Philosophy

The CALL is founded on the following principles:

1. We believe in the Holy Trinity: God the Father, Jesus Christ His Son, and the Holy Spirit.
2. We believe in the supremacy of God.
3. We believe that the Holy Bible is God’s Word to His Church and that it is complete, inerrant and fully trustworthy.
4. We believe in the forgiveness of sin through God’s grace and that personal salvation is available only through Jesus Christ.

≡ The CALL FM Story

The CALL has been on the air in Miami-Dade County, Florida and the Upper Florida Keys since February 9, 2000. The CALL was started by a group of college-age young adults in the summer of 1994. Meeting at a surf store across from the University of Miami campus, the group felt God’s calling for this type of ministry although no opportunities appeared to be available. An FCC application was filed in late 1995, and the group prayed and pursued this vision for the next five years. In 1999, the group was given the opportunity to purchase WMKL. The CALL signed on the air on February 9, 2000. On April 22, 2005, WMKL’s signal was increased to 50,000 watts, reaching seven times as many listeners.

Expansion

The CALL is launching a new full-power FM station, WMYE 91.9 FM licensed to Ft. Myers, Florida in 2008.  WMYE will serve the Ft. Myers area including Cape Coral and a portion of southern Charlotte County to Punta Gorda, Florida.  WMYE’s signal will eventually be relayed on four FM translator stations that will extend coverage throughout Bonita Springs and Naples, Florida.  The CALL is also pursuing some other opportunities for expansion to other areas and has several applications pending with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

≡ Organizational and Current Goals

Organizational Goals

We aim to provide a high-quality, professional broadcast that will not only meet, but exceed the expectations for a dynamic, youth-oriented station. Our aim is to become the station of choice among our target audience by providing a better alternative to secular programming.

Current Goals

1. To procure the necessary operating funding through the support of local churches, businesses and listeners by conducting on-air fund drives twice a year
2. To organize a staff of capable and talented volunteers and part-time personnel to oversee the ongoing operation of The CALL.
3. To operate symbiotically with the ministry of the local church: promoting local activities and, in return, receiving support from the church body for The CALL.
4. To expand the operations of The CALL to support a full-time, professional staff.
5. To be ready to answer the call in other areas, including the promotion of major concert events and the formation of sister stations in other regions.

≡ FAQ

  1. What is The CALL?

The CALL is a growing network of localized FM radio stations serving Southeast Florida (Miami area and the Upper Florida Keys) and, in 2008, Southwest Florida (Ft. Myers-Naples). The CALL can also be heard world-wide on the Internet. The CALL can be heard 24 hours a day, seven days a week airing Christian music and programming designed specifically for teens and young adults. The CALL has been on the air since Feb. 9, 2000.

  2. Where can I hear The CALL?

Southeast Florida: The CALL can be received well in the southern Miami-Dade County and the upper Florida Keys areas. Reception is fair on car radios in northern Miami-Dade County and parts of southern Broward County.

Southwest Florida: The CALL’s WMKL signal is being relayed to translator (”repeater”) stations in Naples on 90.5, 102.3, 107.5 FM, and in between Bonita Springs and San Carlos Park on 103.3 FM. Once WMYE goes on the air in 2008 in Ft. Myers, the new 91.9 FM signal will be heard from Punta Gorda to Bonita Springs, including the core area of Ft. Myers and Cape Coral. WMYE’s signal will then be relayed throughout Naples on the four translator frequencies.

  3. What kind of music can I hear on The CALL?

The CALL is not locked into any specific kind of music or format but is instead targeted to its intended audience of listeners who are between ages 13 and 25. Because of this, the music will always be changing to fit the musical tastes of its listeners.

  4. How can I get on The CALL’s mailing list?

Fill out the online form or call The CALL office at (305) 662-7736 during normal business hours. If you can’t reach anyone, simply leave a message with your name, address and phone number.

  5. How can I help The CALL?

You can start by praying for The CALL and by sharing what The CALL is doing with as many people as you can. You should encourage them to join you in supporting The CALL financially in order to keep The CALL on the air. You can also arrange for The CALL to speak at your church youth group or community organization. From time to time The CALL needs committed volunteers and supporters who can give their time to support The CALL activities and functions.

  6. What other activities will The CALL be involved in?

The CALL will be involved wherever there are people. More specifically, The CALL will be involved in many community organizations and churches as well as supporting other nonprofit ministries. The CALL will provide a great deal of public service announcements and encourage the listeners to get involved in making a difference in our community and our world.

  7. How can my youth group get involved with The CALL?

We’d love to come out to your youth group and talk about The CALL and the influence of music on teens and young adults. Please talk to your pastor or youth leader about inviting The CALL to speak to your group and then have them contact The CALL to set an appointment.

  8. Is my financial contribution to The CALL tax-deductible?

Yes. Call Communications Group is a 501(c)(3) organization, and all contributions are recognized as tax-deductible by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service.

  9. Who is Call Communications Group?

Call Communications Group is a 501(c)(3) (tax-exempt) nonprofit organization. Call Communications Group was formed in 1994 by college-age young adults with the purpose of starting The CALL. Call Communications Group is officially made up of a board of directors of Christians from the South Florida area.

≡ About

The CALL’s goal is to make a positive impact on the community by introducing people to Jesus Christ and encouraging the growth of that relationship.

More specifically, The CALL seeks to encourage young adults in South Florida to seek a personal, dynamic relationship with Jesus Christ through the influence of culturally relevant music that portrays the grace and truth of the gospel message and applies Biblical principles to all areas of life; and to provide a positive alternative to the current broadcasting media by airing Christian music that addresses the hard-hitting concerns young people face today.
